Learn To Swim
Vision for kids and the water:
Not a swim school. Traditional swim skills are one of many goals for your child here at Evergreen Swims. We introduce a lifetime of swim relationship with the water that will inhabit 70% of the earth and 100% of the lives of our clients. We don’t see our only goal to get kids from A to B in water. We educate them using our unique approach and facility to foster a confidence in the water as we teach basic swimming skills.
Foundation of Breathing:
This is what all things build upon. We must learn to go against our instinct when our foot hits the water from reactionary breathing (similar to panic) to relaxed breathing. Evergreen Swims will foster this in varying water conditions. We will stick with breathing until it’s mastered in the unpredictable settings we create and go back to it each lesson.
We gauge skills from new to learning to mastery! “New” relates to introducing and explaining, “learning” is trial and error and “mastery” is witnessing confidence when our water is unpredictable. These are the bricks we use to progress to greater challenges and press into new places the kids are ready to go.
On average a child takes anywhere from 12 weeks to one year depending on how they take to the water. Comparing or limiting your child will create a stress around swimming and could interfere with progress. Remember all children are unique. How many classes per week and home follow up will be indicators, as well. We are not just teaching them to go from A to B but a life skill. Our approach that swim lessons are not just another sport or activity, but a lifelong gift of the skills to not only “manage” water but to love it.
With our Swim for Life Program, your child learns how water works. Why do I float? Why do I sink? How does water act when it’s restricted, like in a river? How do I respond in open water and why? Water is healing, calming, so giving them a “gift” of water is what we strive to do. A relationship is developed with water that they can build on for a lifetime.
Parents n Newbies:
What better way to introduce a love of and safety in water than an optimal temperature and small environment. Without our UV and Ozone combination sterilizer it’s safe for all ages and sensitivities. This is fun for the two of you as your child acclimates, you beam with joy and bond. Consistency is key with these classes so we recommend no less than two classes per week.
Learn to swim:
Good for all ages from water acclimation to stroke development. All of our “Kids” lessons focus on safety and awareness of water dynamics while teaching swim skills. We will meet with you to assess your personal goals for your child. The desire is to get your child in the right class for their goals and ability which is why our levels are ambiguous. Your first class is always free!
Private & Semi-Private:
We hone in on your goals and meet those in unique ways highlighting how you learn specifically. You will notice the investment is well worth since the progress is greatly compounded when one on one, or one on two. You will need less of these classes than regular learn to swim. Great option if you’d like to incorporate therapeutic into learn to swim addressing learning disabilities, sensory disorders, on the spectrum etc. as we specialize in this unique offering.
This class is for the 2-3 yr old of any level. This age is integral in the perception of water, how they work in water, independence & confidence with it. Ages 1-3 have, unfortunately, the highest rate of drowning incidents. This is due to their unpredictability as well as physical limitations. We take these classes seriously with a limit of 3 per class instead of 4.
Classes to fit every ability level, tempered with an intimate setting to keep you safe, accountable and motivated. Our pool is able to vary in temperature to optimize your goals. USMS Adult Learn to Swim: This program was developed by USMS for those who have had traumatic experiences or never learned to swim. You may have a desire to enjoy the water sports Colorado has to offer or want to take the grandkids to the pool without fear.
